Oh my god. The Neil Young Archives. This is the first time I've seen a track list, packaging, etc., and I'm floored. I don't think I can justify buying a Blu-Ray player, and certainly not just for this, so I'm glad they're releasing a standard CD version.
I'm a little irked that the albums aren't represented in their entirety - "Out On The Weekend," for instance, would not be the song to omit from the Harvest era - but the sequencing looks fascinating nonetheless.
Other quibbles: I hate hate HATE cardboard slipcases; they just don't protect the discs. And the amazing book that comes with the Blu-Ray and DVD sets probably doesn't come with the CD version.
That said, for $99, the CD set is a steal, and the same is probably (especially?) true of the video versions. Neil Young is a weird dude, and it's a little ridiculous that this has taken so long to appear. But if it's as good as it looks, it'll probably have been worth it. Volume 2, though, will probably be my favorite. Can't wait!
am i sexist for thinking bechdel was a man before reading the article?
